The Reverend Dr. Barbara J. Seras, Priest-In-Charge

Mother Barbara was born and raised in Carlisle. She attended Chatham College in Pittsburgh and Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle. While practicing law, she owned and operated Back Door Pizza, just a block off Dickinson’s campus.

She received her M.Div. from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL and was ordained to the priesthood in 1993 in Maryland. Barbara’s ministry experiences includes Program Director for Episcopal Social Ministries in the Diocese of MD where she coordinated summer day camps and youth employment program for inner city children in Baltimore.  She served parishes in Columbia, MD, Highland, MD, Woodlawn, MD, and St. James, and St. John’s in Lancaster. For two years Barbara tested her vocation as a religious sister at the Episcopal Community of St. John Baptist in Mendham, NJ. Barbara loves travel, cooking, Ikons and Greek dancing.

The Reverend Janet E. Brown, Deacon

Deacon Jan began her ministry at St. Paul’s in May 2020 working with the people and clergy of the congregation in liturgy, study and ministry.  She was ordained on October 2010 and served at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in York.   Deacon Jan is a licensed clinical social worker and works full time as a psychotherapist

 She shares a home with her daughter Barbara and Dali the Border Terrier. 

Her interests include reading and learning, humor, travel to Scotland, Celtic spirituality, and getting to know people on their journeys of faith.

The Reverend Dr. John H. Emmert, Associate Priest

Prior to his retirement from active parish ministry, Father John was Rector of St. John’s Church in Lancaster. He also served parishes in Virginia Beach, VA and Valdez, Alaska.  Since 2004, he has been a familiar pastoral presence and frequent supply priest at St. Paul’s.

He continues to serve as a Theological Consultant to the clinicians at the Samaritan Counseling Center.
