The Rev Dr John H Emmert was Rector of St. John’s parish in Lancaster from 1996-2004. Before that he served parishes in Virginia Beach, VA and Valdez, Alaska. Since retirement, Father John was a regular supply priest at St. Paul’s, first with Bishop Haines, and more recently with Fr Sud. Father John is thankful for the welcome and support he receives at St. Paul’s from both clergy and parishioners. He has especially enjoyed doing guitar liturgies at the park in the summer.
He now spends most of his time working on his yard and pond, and attending school activities of his grandchildren. As with many retired folks, he finds more to do than he imagined, including mentoring a group of younger clergy through the Samaritan Counseling Center, sharing in the leadership of a Wellness Initiative with a pilot group of clergy in our diocese, and serving on the board of Compassionate House Aftercare, an organization helping recently released prisoners.
